The Artist: Francesco Piccolo
Born in 1990 in the Charleroi region of Belgium, I am an artist whose life and creative practice span Belgium and Italy. This ongoing journey between two cultures, two sensibilities, and two visual worlds continuously shapes and enriches my artistic expression.

Artistic Journey
My artistic research began with the moving image. I started as a filmmaker, pursuing stories shaped by light and time. Later, photography became my everyday language—a way of seeing, trained to capture fleeting moments and to seek balance and tension within the frame. For years, I immersed myself in the digital world, exploring its endless possibilities. Yet, over time, I felt the need for something more tangible, more authentic: the desire to work with my hands and experience the physical response of the material itself.
The canvas became my new visual field—not a backlit screen, but a living surface where color flows, layers, and resists. I carry with me the eye of a photographer, with its attention to composition, contrast, and the interplay of presence and absence, while allowing it to converse with instinct and the freedom of an unpredictable gesture. I chose the tangible because I wanted art to regain its weight, its scent, and its texture. Each work marks a transition: from pixel to matter, from the captured image to the emotion it evokes.
